Mission The mission of the Environmental Education Fund is to facilitate productive partnerships which raise public awareness of the environmental consequences of our actions.
As we look at the future, we see environmental education as the most essential component of any environmental management effort. This country and state have a natural heritage that forms the basis for the quality of life we have here. Environmental regulations serve an invaluable role in protecting our critical natural heritage, but they alone are not sufficient to sustain it. Environmental education builds a foundation of understanding and respect, and a culture that encourages stewardship of this invaluable resource.
Goals The major goal of the Environmental Education Fund is to have a citizenry with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to ensure sound decision-making and responsible stewardship of North Carolina’s environment.
To accomplish this goal, the Environmental Education Fund provides support and encouragement to Environmental Education Programs and supports a Public Environmental Education Campaign. The Environmental Education Fund monitors the need for these efforts through Surveys of the General Public and Teachers.
North Carolina’s environmental quality cannot be left to regulation alone – it requires far more. The quality of life we want and need depends on public awareness of the natural systems that support all life, and the environmental stewardship that comes from understanding the interconnectedness of all things. |
