Butterfly Project
Pete and Betty Ann Knudsen have studied and collected butterflies from all over the world. Until this Project they have shared their collection and their knowledge through personal visits to elementary classes -- primarily in Wake County. Now, with generous support from foundations and individuals, and the technical expertise of Richard Whisnant, the classroom experience is available not only in Betty Ann's book "How are Butterflies like Chickens?" but also on a DVD of Betty Ann's classroom presentation. The Book and the DVD have been distributed to North Carolina's Environmental Education Centers throughout the state. You can download the book at http://www.studyskills.net/butterflies/ or find the Center closest to you by going to the Office of Environmental Education website at http://www.eenorthcarolina.org or see if your local library can help you.
In addition, thanks to a generous contribution from the Triangle Community Foundation, the Environmental Education fund was able to engage the talents of Mary Russell Roberson to write an accompanying teacher's guide entitled "Butterfly and Moth Activities for Elementary School Students".
