Environmental Education Library Collections in K-12 School and Community Libraries

The Environmental Education Fund, through partnerships with the Department of Public Instruction, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' Office of Environmental Education, and others, provides grants to schools, public libraries and environmental education centers to build and maintain exemplary environmental education library collections. The Environmental Education Library Grant Program is designed to ensure that current, science based, and professionally reviewed environmental education resources are available in school and community libraries. The selected books, videos, periodicals, software, and kits for hands-on activities will:
increase environmental awareness,
support K-12 school curriculum objectives,
reinforce professionalism, and
avoid mistaking bias or environmental issue advocacy for environmental education in schools and communities throughout the state.

An Environmental Education Bibliography is developed through a collaborative review process. Representatives from academia, business, government, the Department of Public Instruction, Certified Environmental Educators, and nonprofit organizations regularly review and update the Bibliography to aid teachers and librarians in selecting quality library resources.
