Support Environmental Education in North Carolina

Twenty-seven percent of the state's population is made up of minorities, and North Carolina has one of the fastest growing Spanish speaking populations in the country. Due to these changing demographics, the Environmental Education Fund will identify and share successful practices that attract and retain environmental educators who teach under-served, underprivileged, and/or minority communities and implement successful minority outreach strategies with environmental education program providers.

Beyond the innate responsibility to ensure that environmental education resources, facilities, and programs are available to the state's rich diversity of populations, it is necessary that program providers from public, private and non-profit environmental education organizations are provided with the professional development skills needed to attract, retain and build the interest of diverse populations. Seminars, conferences, workshops and communication expertise are proposed to train and to build the capacity of educators and program providers to meet the needs of minority and under-served populations.
